As the world commemorates Global Handwashing Day, MWSC took to celebrate with the pupils in Kawama East Mufulira by conducting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene sensitization.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness on crucial hygiene practices such as hand washing and highlight the importance of protecting water and sanitation infrastructure from theft and vandalism.
The event took place at Insansa Primary School and attracted hundreds of pupils, including learners from Gusto Primary and Gasto Community schools.
The day was packed with engaging activities, such as a hygiene quiz competition were top performers were rewarded with hygiene hampers filled with items like hand wash soap, sanitizer, toilet paper, and sanitary pads.
The vibrant atmosphere was further enriched by an energetic performance from the Insansa Primary School drama group, who entertained the audience with traditional drumming and cultural dances. This lively event not only educated students on key hygiene issues but also emphasized the importance of preserving vital water and sanitation facilities for the community's well-being.
This "Water for Life and VEI" supported activity saw MWSC donate 8 hand washing stations to schools and health facilities in Kawama where a project aimed at improving water supply and sanitation for over 4000 people is underway.
